DataCleaner 1.5: Lesser General Public License

DataCleaner 1.5 and newer versions of DataCleaner are licensed using the Lesser General Public License (LGPL). The license gives anyone the right to use the software for any purpose, to distribute it, to modify it, and to distribute modified versions of the software. The only requirement in this model is that any modifications should be LGPL (or compatible) licensed also. This is the principle of copyleft, ensuring that any improvements made to DataCleaner will benefit all users. Please refer to the address below for details regarding the license:

DataCleaner 1.4 and earlier: Apache License 2.0

DataCleaner 1.0.7 and earlier versions are also Open Source, licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. The license basicly gives anyone the right to use the software for any purpose, to distribute it, to modify it, and to distribute modified versions of the software. Please refer to the address below for details regarding the license:

Motivation

The goal behind the choices of license has been to maximize the usefulness of the software. We encourage Open Source developers to contribute to the project (see HowToContribute for details) instead of forking new (competitive) projects based on DataCleaner. The choice to switch from The Apache License 2.0 to LGPL was made to ensure that people where properly credited and that modifications made would benefit all users of DataCleaner.
